First 3-Dimensional Newsgroup Post

In a historic move, and one that will go down in the history books along with the great achievements of the best minds of our time, “unboundprometheus” has accomplished the seemingly impossible-a 3-dimensional post.

Since its inception in 1979, newsgroups, and of late Google Groups, have been limited to simple ASCII, or text. Paul Baran told The Fablieaux “We were building systems (back then) to allow communication between missile sites to survive nuclear impact, not transmit large, complex objects. What unboundprometheus has done is nothing short of astounding. One can only imagine the amount of time and resources involved to finally pull of the impossible. His achievements,” Baran added, “make mine seem insignificant.”

The Internet

The Internet

“Hypertext was always so limiting”, added Vannevar Bush,  “because we could only have symbols or conversations moving across the networks we had created. This new technology opens up the possibility of representing and transporting 3-dimensional objects like a fly or a person.”

The consequences and repercussions of this new technology are truly frightening, heralding the dawn of a truly Orwellian society where “the man” can keep an eye on you through your computer, home or portable-literally.

Imagine a world where you can experience a Usenet post. Bob Metcalfe, the inventor of Ethernet,  told The Fablieaux “In the spirit of Tron, this one pioneer, nay-visionary, has opened up a new world for technological exploration and integration into society.”

Al Gore added that “It is in the true spirit of invention and innovation that this accomplishment leads us, while building on the foundation I personally laid with the creation of the Internet. My Internet can now be used the way I originally intended-not for nude Britney Spears pictures and tweets, but for 3-dimensional text”.

This reporter for one, and I hope I speak for the entire editorial staff at The Fablieaux, is both proud and humbled to have witnessed the dawning of a new age for text, and ultimately the written word. Who know what new frontiers await us now that unboundprometheus opened the door that has been closed for 30 years.
